Most people use Authorea to author scholarly manuscripts. However, more and more people are starting to use Authorea as a blog, as an overlay journal, as a conference portal, or as a private workspace and public portal for a research group.

You can now customize the way that your group page looks. For example, you may want to replace the Authorea logo in the top left with your logo. You may want to customize the page colors, add a banner, and even get your own custom domain name.

Getting started

Join or create a group you want to customize
Make sure the group is a Premium Group (more below)

Customize look and brand

Click on the Customize Look button on your group page (left sidebar).
Set the CSS rules to modify the look and information presented on your pages. For example, if you want to modify the color of the banner to green, you would insert this CSS rule under Group CSS:
#institution-info{
background-color: #00947c !important;
}

Alert: Customizing your page brand and look will require some basic knowledge of HTML/CSS

Customize the domain name

If you want to run your group page on your own custom domain, follow these steps:

Register a domain name. You can use services such as Google Domains or DNSimple
Set a domain's A record (from your registrar's DNS settings page) to point to 52.44.46.195
Send us an email at info@authorea.com to let us know you have performed steps 1 and 2.

Note: this feature is currently only available to Premium Groups. See Pricing page for more information. Enterprise packages are also available to run Authorea on a private cloud. If you have any questions, contact us at info@authorea.com.
